How To Grow Vegetables In Your Apartment?

Posted on: 30 Nov -0001

It is a fact that you cannot grow a lot of vegetables in your apartment, but you can still manage to get enough harvest to eat for weeks! If you are a fan of DIY and prefer organic food, why not consider the idea of growing your own vegetables in your apartment? Recently, residents of numerous apartments in Kochi have started trying out growing these. You can do it too. Here are three steps to help you get started.

Find a nice spot

First of all, you find a  good spot that gets lots of sunlight. Plants love sunlight, especially fruits and veggies. Like you may have heard, plants need at least 6 hours of good direct sunlight per day. So, you need to locate a spot in your home that gets a lot of sunlight. The best places for this could probably be any one of your balconies or a patio. Many builders in Kochi are now promoting eco-friendly living, and utilising your balconies to grow these plants would be a great idea.

On a Sunday morning when you have nothing much to do, make sure that your preferred spot gets enough sunlight throughout the day. You can use a compass to get the approximate direction of sunlight during the day. Don’t be disappointed if the spot does not get a full six hours of sunlight. At least four hours will do.

Purchase the containers

You are getting prepared for container gardening, or you may say growing in pots. The only difference from your usual flower pots and growing pots will be that these will be that the latter will be a bit larger and deeper. This is because you need enough room to let the roots stretch out.

Growing in containers will be perfect in an apartment because they don’t take up much space, they are easier to move and plants growing in them are easy to maintain. And you’re going to be amazed at how much yield you can actually get. Moreover, you will be amazed at how much yield you can actually get.

Choose the crops

After you choose a spot and the containers, this is the fun part! You should know what you need to grow, as there are a lot of choices. Mostly, any type of vegetable and herb and quite a wide variety of fruit will grow in a container. Once you decide on your crops, you will have to choose the right soil. Then plant the seeds, and let it grow.

And, that’s it. You’re going to be producing your own organic fruits and vegetables!
